Why Photography?

No longer the darling of just the young and cutting-edge, photography has found a home in the collection of art-lovers at all levels.

Because the market for photography is so large and the possibilities seem endless, black-and-white landscapes, nature, nostalgia and city scenes are just a few of the things that dominate photo trends.

In sizing up photography's value, factors to consider are technical elements, size, time period, process, edition size and an exhibition track record.

Photography seems to be able to touch collectors of all levels in a way that other forms cannot.  Barry Podgorsky, co-owner of Soho Triad Fine Art in New York says, "Photography has always been and continues to be, one of the most accessible media in terms of people understanding it.  They look at a photograph and they understand what it is.  Some of the old stuff that goes along with visiting galleries about how art-educated you have to be, how knowledgeable you have to be, sorta disappears when you look at a photograph.  Everybody can identify in some way with a photo."
